"The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is a portrait of the 19th century poet Ralph Waldo Emerson. Emerson's writings inspire my art greatly, so I wanted to draw this portrait of him. The Dahlia flowers symbolise inner strength and creativity, which are themes I can find in Emerson's writings. In the portrait, I also included moths, which I think are magical creatures.
The original artwork was made using graphite pencils and acrylic paints, and it measures 16"x20" inches (40x50cm).
