How To Prepare A Painting Surface With Gesso

In this quick tutorial video, you can see how to prepare a painting surface with gesso. You can apply the gesso on wood panel or canvas, whichever painting surface you prefer.

In this video I used Golden Acrylics Gesso, Golden Acrylics Glazing Liquid and Van Dyke Brown acrylic paint. You don't have to add paint into the gesso, but I personally feel more comfortable painting on a tinted surface instead of a bright white surface.

The glazing liquid makes the gesso easier to apply and you end up with a smoother finish with less visible brush strokes. You can also use a piece of sand paper to smooth the gessoed surface once the gesso is completely dry. I've added links to all the art supplies used in this video down below.
